Welcome to Hacienda de Guru Ram Das and Sikh Dharma New Mexico. A community of more than 300 Sikhs and Kundalini Yogis, Sikh Dharma came to Northern New Mexico more than 30 years ago when Yogi Bhajan declared this to be his new home. From its humble beginnings in an old farmhouse off of Highway 285, we have grown into a thriving community of nonprofit businesses, for-profit enterprises, and volunteers who host local and international events throughout the year.

While many of the members of our community are Sikhs, meaning seeker of truth, it is not a requirement to living here or participating in our way of life. Sikhism began in India in the 16th century and since then Sikhs from the Punjab region of Northern India have migrated throughout Europe, the Americas, and Asia, numbering about 23 million worldwide. It wasn’t until the early seventies, when Yogi Bhajan came to the United States, that many Americans began converting to the Sikh religion, attracted by its egalitarian teachings and its respect for other religions. Traditionally, Sikhs do not convert people; but they do participate enthusiastically in outreach activities and contribute to their surrounding communities. The Sikh teachings encourage people to live their lives in service to others, creating abundance, peace, and prosperity throughout the earth, serving humanity and building interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

For more than 30 years Sikh Dharma International (SDI) has been a recognized non-profit 501c(3) religious organization in the United States and an effective vehicle for spreading the teachings of the Sikh Gurus in every direction of the globe. Sikh Dharma of New Mexico (SDNM) was founded in the early 1970's and is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that serves the needs of the local Sikh community.

Our minds release 1000 thoughts per wink of an eye. Some of these thoughts get lost in the unconscious, and some get stuck in the subconscious and affect the conscious mind. These thoughts become feelings, emotions, desires, multi-realities or fantasies. Instead of mastering our mind, often our mind and thoughts direct us, which can cause impulsive decisions, poor communication and self-imposed stress.
